Roush on Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother and Chuck
Question: I am quite happy and amazed that The Big Bang Theory is doing pretty well in the ratings, considering it gets no buzz from the media. This show is now No. 2 in its time slot, behind Dancing with the Stars; it has built on its How I Met Your Mother lead-in by double digits both weeks; and it beat critically acclaimed Chuck in both weeks' ratings. How do you think it will do in the ratings after DWTS exits? I think it might break 10 million.— Scott G.
Matt Roush: I'm actually content that both Big Bang and Chuck (which I prefer of the Monday options in the 8 pm/ET hour) are coexisting nicely in the time slot, both outdrawing the ridiculous Prison Break. No doubt Big Bang could add considerably to its total if a phenom like Dancing with the Stars weren't opposite it, but crunching numbers isn't my thing. Suffice it to say that by building on its lead-in, Big Bang qualifies as a keeper for now, if something less than a big hit. (Not much of that going on so far this season.)
