Olympian Gus Kenworthy Speaks Out on LGBTQ Equality

It's arguable that the Winter Olympics' most iconic moment wasn't a gold medal run, a show of great sportsmanship between countries, or Chloe Kim's awesome breakfast sandwich tweet. It was a kiss between two men.

Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy kissed his boyfriend Matthew Wilkas before flying down a mountain to compete in the Men's Slopestyle skiing event, and it was captured by cameras and broadcast to the world. It is the first same-sex kiss broadcast at any Olympic games, and a celebratory moment for sports and global culture.

Kenworthy, who was competing with several injuries, finished 12th in the competition. He won silver in 2014, but wasn't out as gay at the time and therefore didn't use the platform to advocate for gay rights. But now that he is, he's more than eager to share his wonderful story.

Speaking about the Human Rights Campaign's efforts to support LGBTQ equality, Kenworthy said, "It's been an incredible Olympics, we've seen so much change and so much progress and so much visibility for the LGBT community and that's been incredible. And I don't think we would be anywhere near where we are without all the hard work that the Human Rights Campaign has done."
