Oprah Responds to Calls to Run for President

Many people would love to see Oprah run for president, including Golden Globe Awards host Seth Meyers, who teased the media mogul about it during his opening monologue.

In an effort to inspire Oprah the way he reportedly inspired Donald Trump with his jokes about Trump being unqualified to run during the 2011 White House Correspondents Dinner, Meyers joked, "Oprah, you will never be president. You do not have what it takes!"

NBC, which aired the Globes, continued the joke on social media, tweeting, "Nothing but respect for OUR future president." The tweet went viral with many on Twitter voicing their support for Oprah running for office in 2020. However, per The Hollywood Reporter, the network deleted the tweet Monday morning amid criticism from Donald Trump Jr.

"The tweet was sent out by a third party agency for NBC Entertainment in real time during the live broadcast," a spokesperson in a statement on Monday. "It is in reference to a joke made during the opening monologue and not meant to be a political statement. We have since removed the tweet."

While NBC was only joking, Oprah's long-time partner Stedman Graham added serious fuel to the fire by teasing a real potential presidential run for the Hollywood icon."It's up to the people," he told The Los Angeles Times after the ceremony. "She would absolutely do it."

However, according to Bloomberg, Oprah shot those rumors down. "I don't -- I don't," she said when asked if she had any plans to run.
