Happy post-Valentine's Day candy coma: Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux confirm love is dead by officially announcing their separation.

The rumors about the Hollywood it-couple's demise have been circulating for weeks, but only "sources" were saying it and there was enough hope that the rumors were just another cycle of tabloid gossip. Unfortunately, not this time. The couple released a joint statement to the Associated Press on Thursday confirming the split and putting out their own story to combat the fabricated tales that have been circulating.

This Awesome Friends Movie Trailer Makes Us Wish It Were Real

"In an effort to reduce any further speculation, we have decided to announce our separation. This decision was mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year," the statement read. "We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple, but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship. Normally we would do this privately, but given that the gossip industry cannot resist an opportunity to speculate and invent, we wanted to convey the truth directly. Whatever else is printed about us that is not directly from us, is someone else's fictional narrative. Above all, we are determined to maintain the deep respect and love that we have for one another."

The couple began dating in 2011 and announced their engagement in August of 2012. They were married three years later in August of 2015. Aniston was previously married to Brad Pitt from 2000-2005. This was Theroux's first marriage.

You should probably pour yourself some more of that discount champagne because this one is going to be a rough one to accept.
