New TV on DVD for the week of November 13, 2007
After six seasons as a favorite fixture on the WB (and one final, often disappointing season on the CW), Amy Sherman-Palladino's Gilmore Girls came to an end last spring. But don't fret: You can still get your fix of single-mom Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and daughter Rory (Alexis Bledel) as they support each other through romantic heartache and family headaches, and as they share BFF moments in the small town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut. The show also saw a number of memorable guest appearances, including Madeleine Albright, The Bangles, Marion Ross and Sonic Youth. All 153 episodes appear on 42 discs, housed in a cute doll case. Extras include unaired scenes, making-of featurettes, commentary, a cast documentary, an interactive map of Stars Hollow, a look at the changing fashions of Lorelai and Rory and a collectible book that explains all of the pop-culture "Gilmore-isms" that made the show so endearing to so many.Buy from Amazon.com

In this high-spirited special from everyone's favorite absorbent yellow fellow, Sponge, Patrick, Mr. Krabs, Sandy and Squidward take a trip to the lost city of Atlantis in search of the "Oldest Living Bubble." There they encounter the Blue Meanies-esque Lord Royal Highness, the king of Atlantis, voiced by none other than rock legend David Bowie. All is well until Patrick (of course it's Patrick) accidentally pops the bubble, and the gang have to take off in a hurry. This disc also features six other episodes, as well as a couple of fun extras, like a look at the Nickelodeon animation studios where SpongeBob is drawn into creation and a making-of for the Atlantis SquarePantis episode. It's hard to believe that The Addams Family only lasted for two seasons in the mid-'60s, given its lasting cultural impact, including an animated series and a trio of movies in the '90s (and just try not snapping along with the theme song — betcha can't do it). The Addams were a macabre yet surprisingly loving, functional family, led by Morticia (Carolyn Jones) and Gomez (John Astin, aka Samwise Gamgee's old man), with multiple generations sharing one fantastically gothic house. The series' 64 episodes appear on nine discs, along with commentary from the cast and crew, "tombstone trivia" and other featurettes, and a karaoke version of the theme song.Buy from Amazon.com
No one celebrates Christmas quite like Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the mad geniuses behind South Park, and this DVD collects all seven of the show's holiday episodes in one craptastic place. Get cozy with "Mr. Hankey the Christmas Poo"; sing along with "Mr. Hankey's Christmas Classics"; enjoy Christmas dinner with Cartman's Uncle Howard, who's escaped from prison with his buddy in "Merry Christmas Charlie Manson"; and build a manger for Satan with a band of darling wildlife in "Woodland Critter Christmas." Plus three more holiday favorites by no means to be shared with the whole family.Buy from Amazon.com
The epitome of '80s style and swagger, Miami Vice put on display the ins and outs of South Florida crime and the cops who fought it. Don Johnson starred as Sonny Crockett, who, along with his partner Ricardo Tubbs (Philip Michael Thomas), went undercover to root out all sorts of evil. The show costarred Admiral Adama — er, Edward James Olmos — as Lieutenant Castillo. Watch it to get an eyeful of pastels, not to mention a primer on the once-ubiquitous "collarless jacket and sockless loafers" look. The series' five seasons appear on 27 discs, housed in a perfectly appropriate faux-alligator-skin box. Happily, unlike so many TV-on-DVD releases, this one comes with all the original music from the show, including ditties by Phil Collins, U2, Peter Gabriel and Guns N' Roses.Buy from Amazon.com
