Nancy Lieberman will not be calling Thursday night's WNBA game between the Detroit Shock and the Houston Comets. Instead, the 50-year-old Basketball Hall of Famer will be playing for the Shock. The team has signed Lieberman to a seven-day contract (and her ESPN job will be waiting for her should the contract not be extended). "It is an amazing opportunity to continue to play the game I love," Lieberman told espn.com.

Jason Taylor is going to Washington. The Dancing With the Stars runner-up was traded Sunday to the Redskins after an extended standoff with the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins, specifically executive vice president Bill Parcells, were unhappy with Taylor's decision to choose the paso doble and foxtrot over pre-season preparations.
With the trade, the Dolphins picked up a second-round draft pick in 2009 and a sixth-round pick in 2010 from the Redskins.

Tuesday night's 15-inning Major League Baseball All-Star Game gave Fox something to cheer about. The Midsummer Classic drew 14.5 million viewers, the most since 2002, which had 14.7. (That was the year of the dreaded 7-7 tie, which lead to the change in format that gives the winning league home-field advantage in the World Series.) Last year's All-Star pulled just 12.5 million.

ESPN scored 9.12 million viewers to baseball's annual All-Star Game prelude, a 35 percent increase from last year.The Texas Rangers outfielder blasted 28 homers in the first round, improving on the 2005 best of 24, set by Bobby Abreu. Taxed by the effort, Hamilton lost to Justin Morneau of the Minnesota Twins in the final, but not before winning over the crowd.

The network confirmed Monday that longtime studio and game analyst Clark Kellogg will replace Billy Packer alongside Nantz on the lead college hoops announcing team this coming season. Bobby Murcer, a onetime clutch-hitter for the New York Yankees turned broadcaster for YES and other outlets, died Saturday, 18 months after undergoing brain cancer surgery. He will own 50 percent of Stewart/Haas Racing next year, after finishing out the current season driving the No. 20 car for Joe Gibbs Racing.
