Grammy Awards Editors' Picks

Mad Men Pushing Daisies Anna Friel Alec Baldwin
BEST SOLO ROCK VOCAL PERFORMANCE
Should Win: Bruce Springsteen came from out of "nowhere" with a rockin' albeit inconsistent CD in Magic. "Radio Nowhere" is the standout track here.
Will Win: Every now and then the voters think like me; the Boss will win his 16th Grammy.
Dissed: Talk to any current indie-rock band and they will most likely have some influences that trace back to Ken Andrews' first band, Failure. "Secret Things" off his first solo release Secrets of the Lost Satellite, is a head-bobbing masterpiece.
BEST ROCK PERFORMANCE BY A DUO OR GROUP WITH VOCAL
Should Win: As long as Nickelback doesn't take home the prize, it's a win for the entire music community.
Will Win: White Stripes, Green Day, U2! That's just too close to call (for runner-up). Chris Daughtry's meteoric rise to the top of the rock world earns his group their first trophy.
Dissed: Admit it, you laughed when you heard Nikki Sixx was putting out an album in 2007. But "Life Is Beautiful" off Sixx:A.M.'s debut The Heroin Diaries is a Guitar Hero song waiting to happen.
BEST HARD ROCK PERFORMANCE
Should Win: "The Pretender" is hands down the rock song of the year.
Will Win: Yep, make it a fifth shiny trophy for Dave Grohl and the Foos.
Dissed: C'mon, people. It's just not right to put Evanescence in here but leave Nine Inch Nails' "The Beginning of the End" on the sidelines.
BEST METAL PERFORMANCE
Should Win: Thirteen years after their first album, Machine Head released the finest record of their career.
Will Win: Make it back-to-back wins for metal pioneers Slayer. And consider this my plea for getting this category on the telecast. There's nothing I want to see more than the Devil burn the award right out of guitarist Kerry King's hand.
Dissed: Have you heard "The Goatriders Horde" from 3 Inches of Blood? It blows all five of these nominees out of the water.
BEST ROCK ALBUM
Should Win: The Boss' (almost) return to his roots with the E-Street Band was one of the best stories of 2007.
Will Win: It's a close one between Daughtry and the Foo Fighters, but Dave Grohl and company deserve the Grammy this year.
Dissed: The older Jimmy Eat World gets, the less airplay and sales they accrue but the better they become. Show them some love and get rockin' to Chase This Light.
BEST ALTERNATIVE MUSIC ALBUM
Should Win: As I am writing this, four separate people with very different musical tastes have all mentioned how great Neon Bible is. That's gotta say something.
Will Win: Lily Allen is just cool enough to rip this award out of the pasty white hands of Jack and Meg White.
Dissed: Arcade Fire and The Shins are good enough for me. We'll call this one correct.
