GH in HD: Soap Will Look Sharp for May Sweeps

Sonny and Claudia will look sharper than ever.

Despite turning 46 years old on April 1, General Hospital will be looking better than ever when it begins broadcasting in high definition on April 23, the first day of the May sweeps ratings period.

"Our loyal viewers will be very pleased with the technology that provides top-notch video and audio quality, and shows our commitment to the production of this long-running series," says Brian Frons, president of daytime for the Disney-ABC Television Group. "The people and places in Port Charles will never look better."

GH's HD debut — the first for an ABC sudser — coincides with the arrival of a new nurses' hub set, to be unveiled April 14. Storyline-wise, the hospital's nerve center (which now features an exposed stairwell leading to a second story) merited an extreme makeover as the result of the massive explosion that recently rocked the medical facility.

Coming Thursday on TVGuide.com: an in-depth look at GH's new sets.
