Jake Silbermann and Van Hansis, As the World Turns

Well more than a year after As the World Turns' Luke (played by Van Hansis) and Noah (Jake Silbermann) shared the first gay male kiss in the history of American soap operas, they crossed another romantic threshold. They had sex.

At one point during the characters' courtship, a fan campaign was organized to drum up the frequency of their on-screen kisses, which had dwindled to a rare and calculated few since the first one some 17 months ago. But on Jan. 12, Luke and Noah enjoyed a long-overdue — if off-screen — first time in bed, and in perhaps a more realistically protracted manner than any hetero soap romance. That non-rushed timetable is something that has been championed by gay activists keeping a close eye on the pairing.

"For the last year and a half, we've been telling Luke and Noah's story in a sensitive, respectful way and their romance has evolved over time. The scenes in Monday's episode represent a natural progression of their relationship," a spokesperson for the CBS serial said about the unexpected love-making milestone.

What's your take? Was it worth the wait?
