Zooey Deschanel

OK, we are totally crushing on Fox's New Girl.

Last night, the comedy kicked off and immediately won us over with the geeky, cutesy charms of leading lady Zooey Deschanel. As Jess, the recently dumped oddball who moves in with a trio of sitcom-standard but likeable roomies, Emily's little sister found that sweet spot — somewhere closer to Lisa Kudrow's lovable flake Phoebe from Friends than Jenna Elfman's annoying airhead on Dharma & Greg — that saved her from being too goofy to get down with.

As far as first dates go, this one was a win. There was snappy conversation, some fun tunes and, because this is Fox, a bit of flesh (thank you, shirt-averse Max Greenfield!). But is she a keeper? After all, a lot of great pilots have happened to bad shows, and who knows how things will feel when Lamorne Morris joins as a new roomie (Damon Wayans Jr.'s Coach was recast due to his commitment to the late-renewed Happy Endings). Guess we'll just have to make another date with this Girl next week and see.

Did you fall for New Girl, too? Or is she just not your type?
