The Walking Dead Postmortem: Is Andrea Destined to Die?

Will Andrea survive The Walking Dead's third season?

Since so many original characters have met their demise over the last year, it would seem crazy for the AMC series to kill off yet another major character, especially one that is currently still alive in the comics. But with executive producer and comics creator Robert Kirkman continuing the charge in keeping the show unique and different from the comic, Andrea (Laurie Holden) could be on the chopping block.

The Walking Dead: Can Rick and The Governor really broker peace?

Why her? Andrea has spent much of the season literally sleeping with the enemy: The Governor (David Morrisey). As the psychotic leader of Woodbury, he is determined to kill Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and the rest of the group despite saying he would spare everyone during his peace treaty talks with Rick this week. The one person The Governor would spare? Michonne (Danai Gurira), Andrea's best friend who ultimately killed his zombie daughter and took his eye. But he's not sparing her out of mercy so much as wanting to make her suffer, which would certainly put him at odds with Andrea.

Killing off her former group, however, likely would not go unpunished by Andrea, which means he'd eventually have to get rid of her, too. But if she did decide, for whatever crazy reason you'd like to name, to side with The Governor, she would be in the group's crosshairs. Even though they wouldn't want to target her, in the end, they would be forced to protect their group. Survival is the name of the game during a zombie apocalypse after all!

Walking Dead Postmortem: Why didn't Andrea kill The Governor?

"She's walking on a tightrope, and it's very dangerous," Holden tells TVGuide.com. "I don't think anybody is safe on this show, to be honest. The only person who's really safe is Carl [Chandler Riggs]. I know that people don't want to hear that, but it's true. There's going to be more major deaths before the end of the season and no one is safe."

But does that necessarily mean the Grim Reaper will be paying Andrea a visit? The cast and executive producers are keeping mum. But it seems highly suspicious that showrunner Glen Mazzara would leave the series — citing "a difference of opinion about where the show should go moving forward" in Season 4 — if it didn't have to do with something major, like the death, or maybe survival, of a particular character.

Either way, it sounds like there won't be good news on the horizon for Andrea. "What happens to Andrea is not what anybody expects," executive producer David Alpert tells us. Ruh-roh.

Do you think Andrea is going to die?
