Beyoncé was the big winner at Sunday's BET Awards, which both began and ended under violent circumstances.

Hours prior to the show, two separate incidents occurred that resulted in one death and several injuries. According to The Hollywood Reporter, gunfire broke out at an unaffiliated pre-party for the show and ended with five people being injured, one fatally. A man was also stabbed at another BET pre-show party, but is listed in stable condition. No one is in custody for either incident and BET says both parties were unauthorized and unaffiliated with BET.

Keeping the mood light, host Chris Rock joked during the ceremony that it was the only awards show where you people have to worry about safety. Unfortunately, his words rang true as more shots were fired at a post-show party. According to TMZ, the shooting occurred outside a Hollywood nightclub where many rappers including Busta Rhymes, the Game and T-Pain were inside. No one was hurt and the shooter is still at large.

As for the winners, Beyoncé, who was not in attendance, was named Best Female R&B/Pop Artist and won for Best Collaboration with Jay Z on "Drunk in Love" and received the FANdemonium trophy. Other big winners included Nicki Minaj, who was named Best Female Hip Hop Artist and Pharrell who won Best Male R&B/Pop Artist and Video of the Year for "Happy."
