Rosie Perez, Nicolle Wallace
The View has found its new co-hosts.
Do the Right Thing actress Rosie Perez and political commentator Nicolle Wallace have been selected to join the ABC daytime talk show, the network confirmed late Wednesday.
"These are powerful and accomplished women from different walks of life who have had amazing personal and professional experiences. Each brings incredible perspective and information to the table," executive producer Bill Wolff said in a statement. "This mix of smart, vibrant and energetic women is unlike anything else on daytime television."
Perez and Wallace will fill the seats vacated by Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy, who exited the series at the end of June after seven years and one year, respectively. Whoopi Goldberg and Rosie O'Donnell round out the ensemble. Deadline.com was the first to report Perez and Wallace's deals.
Fall TV's fresh faces to watch
Wallace, 42, served as White House Communications Director for the last three years of George W. Bush's presidency and served as a senior advisor on John McCain's unsuccessful 2008 presidential campaign. (She was memorably portrayed by Sarah Paulson in the HBO film Game Change.) Wallace also guest co-hosted The View three times this year, and became a front-runner to join the show in a full-time capacity after a screen test last month. Could her conservative background cause sparks with the notoriously liberally and outspoken O'Donnell?
"I am honored to join the tradition of compelling conversations that has been the signature of The View for the better part of two decades," Wallace said. "I have watched The View for many years and now to be seated alongside three women that I have admired is both humbling and incredibly exciting."
The biggest celebrity feuds
Perez, 49, served as a guest co-host in February. The Oscar nominee recently signed on to star opposite Larry David in his upcoming Broadway debut, but she should be able to accommodate both gigs, since The View shoots in New York. "I am beyond thrilled, honored and completely surprised that I've been asked to join The View," Perez said. "Knowing that I'll be in the company of Whoopi, Rosie and Nicolle, three very smart and engaging women that I have an immense amount of respect for, makes it even more unbelievable. The opportunity to connect with our nation's audience on a daily basis... icing on the cake! Very happy."
ABC has been working to finish a complete overhaul of The View in time for the show's Sept. 15 season premiere. In addition to the departures of Shepherd and McCarthy, longtime executive producer Bill Geddie got the boot in the restructuring, which also includes new logo, a new studio and a new set.
