Holy frak! Battlestar Galactica might get another shot at life through Universal. The movie studio is in the early stages of putting together a new film that would be a reboot of the television franchise, Variety reports.
Universal has hired Transcendence screenwriter Jack Paglen to write a new take of the series that would be yet another incarnation of the Battlestar Galactica universe. Original series creator Glen Larson will produce the new film.
Cult shows that deserve a movie
The original Battlestar Galactica series debuted in 1978 and starred Lorne Greene, Dirk Benedict, and Richard Hatchin an epic battle between humans and hyper-evolved robots known as the Cylons. In 2003, Ronald D. Moore andDavid Eick reimagined the series for Syfy to much critical acclaim and helped launch the careers of Katee Sackhoff,Jamie Bamber, and Tricia Helfer. That version of BSG would yield a prequel web series, two made-for-television movies, and a brief spinoff on Syfy called Caprica.
Another Battlestar Galactica film was in development as recently as 2009 when director Bryan Singer was attached to direct a feature film set in the universe.
Is another version of Battlestar Galactica a good idea?
