Tracy Morgan may be in hot water for making anti-gay comments in his stand-up routine, but the 30 Rock star took the top prize for comedy acting at the Monte Carlo Television Festival.

Morgan was named best actor in a comedy series during the international TV festival's Golden Nymph Awards Friday, Deadline.com reports. Other U.S. winners included Mad Men (best drama), Modern Family (best comedy) and Jon Hamm (best actor in a drama) as well as CSI and Desperate Housewives, which won their respective categories for having the largest international audience.
Morgan's win comes after the actor apologized for making homophobic comments during a June 3 comedy performance at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium. During his rant, Morgan said he said he would "pull out a knife and stab" his son if he were gay.
After being called upon to apologize by GLAAD and other gay rights groups, Morgan released a statement insisting he is "not a hateful person," apologizing for his comments and noting that he's "an equal opportunity jokester."

Morgan's 30 Rock co-star Tina Fey and NBC entertainment chief Robert Greenblatt also distanced themselves from Morgan's comments, but supported his apology. Fellow comedian Chris Rock defended Morgan: "I dont know about you, but I dont want to live in world where Tracy Morgan cant say foul inappropriae sh--," Rock tweeted.
