Dark Knight Rises Wards Off Total Recall Remake at Weekend Box Office

Total Recall

Total Recall matched its predecessor, but it couldn't muster much more at the weekend box office.

The remake of the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger film, this time starring Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel, grossed an estimated $26 million in its debut weekend, Box Office Mojo reports. That's just $500,000 better than the original's opening weekend, without including ticket inflation. Total Recall came in second to The Dark Knight Rises, which reigned supreme for a third week with $36.4 million.

Coming in at No. 3, the third Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie snagged $14.7 million. Ice Age: Continental Drift landed in fourth place with $8.4 million. The Watch completed the top 5, scaring up $6.35 million.

At No. 6, Ted grabbed $5.5 million to cross the $200 million mark. Step Up Revolution followed in seventh place with $5.3 million.

Rounding out the top 10: The Amazing Spider-Man (No. 8, $4.3 million), Brave (No. 9, $2.8 million) and Magic Mike (No. 10, $1.3 million).
