Apolo Ohno has won gold in short-track speed skating's 500-meter (2006) and 1,500-meter (2002), and has bronze and silver in the 1,000-meter. Tonight, he tries to make his collection more symmetrical with a win in the 1,000-meter. World record-holder Shani Davis is the favorite in speed skating's 1,500-meter, but will have to face teammate and rival Chad Hedrick, who has said that in his final Olympics, winning this race is his primary goal. "This isn't Brett Favre here — you won't ever see me again." Other U.S. star athletes in action include skier Lindsey Vonn, competing in the Super G, an event she has dominated on the World Cup circuit; and driver Steve Holcomb, who is a medal threat as two-man bobsled competition gets underway. "In Vancouver, the sled won't matter," he believes. "It'll all be up to the drivers and pushers." And late tonight, Katherine Reutter, who has had her thigh autographed by U.S. Speed skating sponsor Stephen Colbert, goes up against the Chinese in short track's women's 1,500-meter. — Dave Roeder
