Cara (Peyton List) isn't the only one running from her past. Tuesday's Tomorrow People reveals that John (Luke Mitchell) has more than a few dark secrets of his own — including one that could threaten his place among the Tomorrow People.
While a young John was initially happy with his place at Ultra, this week we'll learn the painful reason he couldn't continue playing good son to Jedikiah (Mark Pellegrino) any longer. "Jedikiah essentially experimented on [John] ... and the side effects of that and the effect that it's had on John's life have been pretty tumultuous," Mitchell tells TVGuide.com.
Through flashbacks, we'll get to see a softer side of the scientist, as he becomes a surprising source of refuge for a young John. But after the experimentation, John is forced to see the Ultra leader's true intentions — something Stephen (Robbie Amell) has yet to face. "Stephen is only just at the tip of the iceberg of understanding who Jedikiah is and what he's capable of and what he's been doing and what his job actually involves. Whereas John knows exactly what Jedikiah is like and he's gone from one end of the scale to the other in terms of fondness for him," Mitchell says.

As of now, John kept the real reason for his falling-out with Jedikiah a secret, mainly out of fear. "The fact that the Tomorrow People have that similarity that they're all outcasts and that they're different than human bonded them together, but what are the Tomorrow People going to do when they find out that John is actually different from them and has been experimented on? It's going to be very interesting," Mitchell explains.
But when an old Ultra training buddy, Killian McCrane (JasonDohring), comes to town seeking revenge, John will have to team up with Jedikiah again. While the pair's relationship has been damaged beyond repair, the temporary alliance might resurface feelings John would rather keep hidden. "I think there is affection there, even though I don't think John would ever admit it," Mitchell says. "There has to be still the remnants of some sort of fondness for each other, some sort of love, if you will."
