Tom Brokaw and Wife Unscathed After Fatal Car Accident

Former NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw and his wife walked away unscathed after they were involved in a fatal car accident in New York Friday afternoon, MSNBC reports.

According to a statement released by Brokaw, he and his wife, Meredith, were involved in a three-car accident on the Bruckner Expressway. Brokaw says he and his wife were in the far left lane when they saw a spool of cable bouncing around in the far right lane. A green SUV in that lane tried to avoid the cable but the driver lost control of the car and went into the middle lane. The SUV then forced a mail truck into the Brokaws' lane of traffic. Brokaw says he then slid into the median after the mail truck.
In the statement, Brokaw said he and his wife were "greatly saddened" by the loss of the driver of the SUV, who was thrown from her vehicle and killed.
