Three Rivers Cast Takes Organ Donation to Heart

Three Rivers

CBS' new organ transplant drama, Three Rivers, has made organ donors of its stars. Most of them, anyway.

Castmates Alex O'Loughlin (Moonlight), Alfre Woodard (St. Elsewhere), Justina Machado (Six Feet Under) and other series regulars addressed the issue during a set visit as part of the Television Critics Association fall press tour.

O'Loughlin said he's been a donor since his teenage years.

"It just seemed like the cool thing to do," he joked, before adding, "I don't need it anymore, and I don't have any religious beliefs or anything that keep me from doing it."

The show, debuting Sunday, Oct. 4 at 9/8c, follows the stories of the doctors, donors and recipients in a Pittsburgh transplant hospital. (The title refers to the city's three rivers and the three converging stories.)

Woodard, a recent addition to the cast, says she never thought to become a donor before but plans to now. Machado and co-star Katherine Moennig were already donors, and fellow series regulars Daniel Henney and Christopher J. Hanke plan to be.

Hanke says he just moved to California for the show, "and you can be dang sure" he plans to sign up. He suggested it was the ultimate form of recycling.

"It seems like a good way to live green," he said.

Organ donation procedures vary by state. The cast urged people to visit donatelife.net for more information.
