Syfy Cancels Eureka Without a Season 6

Colin Ferguson

Looks like Syfy is ready to leave Eureka after all.

Less than a week after ordering a six-episode sixth season, Syfy has reversed its decision, canceling the drama after its upcoming fifth season. The network called it a "difficult business decision" and urged fans to look forward to the holiday episode in December and the show's "stellar" final 12 episodes next year.

Will Eureka's sixth season be its last?

"The 2012 episodes are some of the best we've seen, and will bring this great series to a satisfying end," the statement continued. "We are very grateful to Bruce Miller and Jaime Paglia, their team of incredible writers, and an amazing cast and crew who have consistently delivered a series we continue to be very proud of. We thank the fans for their support of this show and know they will enjoy its final season in 2012."

The cancellation is somewhat surprising. After confirming the abbreviated Season 6 order last week, Mark Stern, Syfy's president of original content, said that there were no plans to end the show.
