Survivor Announces Redemption Twist for Season 22

Survivor: Nicaragua

After 21 seasons, Survivor is shaking things up.

After an individual is voted out of the game in Season 22, that person will go to Redemption Island, where they will continue to live under the same conditions as the rest of the competing castaways. Once another person is voted out, they will also travel to Redemption Island and duel head to head with the first person who was voted out. The winner will then get to stay on Redemption Island and continue dueling with the rest of the eliminated participants. Toward the end of the game, the Redemption Island victor will be allowed to re-enter the game and compete for the million-dollar prize.

The game-changing twist, which host Jeff Probst announced during Sunday's live reunion show, is similar to Survivor: Pearl Islands' Outcasts. However, those Outcasts were given plenty of food and a roof over their head after they were voted out. Also, that twist was not announced until right before, whereas all involved parties were informed of Redemption Island from the get-go.

Survivor: Nicaragua winner revealed

Season 22, titled Survivor: Redemption Island, was shot at San Juan del Sur Beach in Nicaragua just like Season 21. The new season will premiere Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 8/7c on CBS.
