Steven Spielberg Says He Will Not Direct a Star Wars Film

Steven Spielberg

You can cross Steven Spielberg off the list of directors who would helm a new Star Wars film.

Following Disney's acquisition of LucasFilm — the company behind filmmaker George Lucas' beloved sci-fi franchise — a new Star Wars film is slated to hit theaters in 2015. But Spielberg has taken himself out of the running to helm it, telling Access Hollywood, "No! It's not my genre. It's my best friend George's genre."

Disney buys LucasFilm, slates Star Wars 7 for 2015

The film would be the first since Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith came out in 2005, and would chronologically follow 1983's Return of the Jedi.

Considering Lucas himself said he won't be at the helm, who would you want to see direct the next film? Maybe J.J. Abrams? Or James Cameron? Hit the comments.
