Steven Spielberg

Steven Spielberg is producing a live-action TV adaptation of the hugely popular Halo video game series, Xbox announced Tuesday in a presentation for the new Xbox One.

"For me, the Halo universe is an amazing opportunity to be at that intersection where technology and myth-making meet," Spielberg said in a video message. The series will be available on Xbox's streaming service Xbox Live, Wired reports. No premiere date or further details were given.

The Halo franchise has generated more than $3 billion in revenue since its launch in 2001. Over the years, Halo has also spawned novels, comic book and soundtracks. The most recent edition of the game, Halo 4, was released in November 2012.

In April, Xbox was reported to be interested in rebooting NBC's canceled superhero series Heroes.
