The X Factor's Steve Jones could be going the way of Brian Dunkelman.
The 34-year-old Welsh host may not return for Season 2 of Fox's newest singing competition, according to the The Daily Mirror.
"The executives at Fox have already decided not to renew his contract and so, short of a miracle happening, it is pretty much a done deal that he will not take part next season," a source told the tabloid. "He got terrible reviews from critics when he started and things haven't got better. There have been mistakes and he just doesn't seem to have the knack for dealing with contestants."
If Jones were to get the ax, he'd be the show's second casualty. Judge Cheryl Cole was dropped back in May and replaced by then-co-host Nicole Scherzinger. (The report also speculates that Scherzinger could take over as host, leaving an open seat at the judges' table for Season 2.)
Jones' camp, however, denied these reports. "The Mirror Story is a fabrication that we would have corrected had we been called for comment. There have been absolutely no conversations about Steve Jones Leaving The X Factor," his rep told TVGuide.com in a statement. "Steve is very happy with the outcome of this season and he looks forward to being back and discovering more talent in the new year."
What did you think of Jones' performance this season? If he doesn't return next year, who would you like to see take his spot?
