Steel Magnolias Producer Sues Over Lifetime Remake

Steel Magnolias

A producer on the original Steel Magnolias has sued Lifetime over its upcoming remake of the 1989 film, The Hollywood Reporter reports.

Victoria White, an executive producer on the Julia Roberts film, filed the suit Monday, charging that Sony Pictures Television, Lifetime Entertainment and A&E Television Networks made the new TV movie without her permission or an agreement to the underlying rights.

White claims breach of contract, good faith, fair dealing, and is attempting to stop the scheduled Oct. 7 premiere. White is also seeking an onscreen credit for the new movie or series of movies, $5,000 per episode, a $10,000 bonus and a share of the net profits.

The Lifetime remake stars Queen Latifah, who also serves as executive producer, Alfre Woodward, Phylicia Rashad, Adepero Oduye and Condola Rashad.

Lifetime has not yet responded to the suit.
