Spike Lee and Robert De Niro Developing Showtime Drama

Big-screen titans Spike Lee and Robert De Niro will team up to develop a Showtime drama series about Lower Manhattan's Alphabet City, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Alphaville will explore the neighborhood's gritty past in the 1980s, focusing on the mix of struggling artists, drug dealers, musicians and families who were part of the scene.

John Ridley will write the script, with Lee set to direct the pilot. De Niro — whose films Taxi Driver and Flawless were set in Alphabet City — will produce, alongside the two and Jane Rosenthal.
