Southland: TNT Will Air Existing Episodes, No New Episodes Ordered

Southland

TNT has obtained the rights for the 13 existing episodes of Southland, including six that have never aired.

The 13-episode block will premiere on TNT on Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 10/9c. A TNT rep confirmed that the network will evaluate the performance of the show before deciding whether to order additional episodes.

Report: Southland and TNT close to deal

"We're delighted that TNT has stepped forward to pick up Southland. We are all extremely proud of the show," said executive producer John Wells (ER, The West Wing).

NBC cancels Southland

NBC canceled the edgy cop series last month, before its second season premiered, claiming the show was too dark and gritty for its timeslot.

The show debuted in April 2009 on Thursdays at 10 p.m., the spot previously held by ER. With a ratings decline and the addition of Jay Leno's nightly prime-time show, the network had planned to air it on Fridays at 9 p.m.
