Rapper Snoop Dogg Becomes Reggae Singer Snoop Lion

Snoop Dogg

After ten years, we didn't think Snoop Dogg could still surprise us.  We were wrong.

The Long Beach rapper has announced his decision to leave the rap game and become a reggae singer. But that, surprisingly, isn't the best part. Snoop is officially out of the Dogg house and will now be known as Snoop Lion. According to the Huffington Post, Snoop's new moniker isn't just some whim — it's a message from a higher power!

"I want to bury Snoop Dogg, and become Snoop Lion," he said. "I didn't know that until I went to the temple, where the High Priest asked me what my name was, and I said, 'Snoop Dogg.' And he looked me in my eyes and said, 'No more. You are the light; you are the lion.' From that moment on, it's like I had started to understand why I was there."

Snoop's reinvention comes as a result of his time in Jamaica, which, Reincarnated, his new three-part project consisting of a documentary, reggae album and book. And while some might find Snoop's new style suspicious, the former rapper has at least one fan: Bob Marley's son Rohan Marley.

"Music is universal," Marley said. "Jamaica is just a part of music, so we were open to Snoop."

Marley's blessing shouldn't be taken lightly either, since Snoop has often referred to himself as Bob Marley reincarnated. (Though, until now, the most they had in common was a penchant for pot and  hit singles).
