Jennifer Hudson’s Smash Debut: "Someone's Always Waiting to Take You Down"

Smash's Marilyn Monroe hopeful Karen Cartwright (Katharine McPhee) is about to get a very important lesson about show biz from one of the best.

In a new preview for NBC's drama lineup shown Tuesday evening during the Olympics, fans got their first look at Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson's upcoming arc on the sophomore series. Hudson, 30, will play Veronica Moore, a Tony-winning Broadway star who "impacts" the lives of Karen and her on-stage rival, Ivy (Megan Hilty).

In the scene, Hudson's Veronica warns Karen:  "Someone's always waiting to take you down, honey."
