Shia LaBeouf Admits to Dropping Acid for New Movie

Shia LeBeouf

Shia LaBeouf is taking method acting to a whole new level.

That's right. The same actor who rose to fame on Disney Channel's Even Stevens and in the Transformers films tells MTV News that he dropped acid in real life to prepare for his character's drug trip in the upcoming movie, The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman.

LaBeouf says he did it because he had never done acid before and he was "scared." He even videotaped himself while on the drug and sent the tape to his co-star Evan Rachel Wood. "Not like she's the expert on set. I'm just saying you reach out to friends and you sort of gauge where you're at. So I was sending tapes around," LaBeouf says. "I'd get 50 percents from people, and that starts creeping me out, and I got really nervous."

By the end, LaBeouf was "spot on," according to Wood. "But not because I'm wanting to be on drugs. I'm not trying to mess with the set or anything like that. It's really just fear that propels people."

However, when it came to showing up to the set under the influence, LaBeouf said he draws the line. "You don't show up wasted. You don't show up completely tripping on acid. But you're rooting for something and you're pushing yourself toward it," he said. "Everyone's got their own way."

What do you think of LaBeouf's acting preparation?
