Shaquille O'Neal Tweets His Retirement from the NBA

Shaquille O'Neal announced he is retiring from professional basketball on his Twitter account Wednesday.

The 39-year-old wrote "I'm retiring" and linked to a video that showed him sitting down at an office desk. "We did it. 19 years, baby. I want to thank you very much," a smiling O'Neal said in the video. "That's why I'm telling you first that I'm about to retire. Love you. Talk to you soon."

O'Neal has played in the NBA for 19 seasons. He was the No. 1 overall draft pick of the Orlando Magic in 1992 and went on to become a 15-time All-Star, and winner of four NBA championships (three with the Los Angeles Lakers and one with the Miami Heat). O'Neal was also the MVP of the 1999-2000 season.

After the Heat, O'Neal also played for the Phoenix Suns, the Cleveland Cavaliers and most recently the Boston Celtics.
