[Warning: This story contains major spoilers from Thursday's episode of Scandal. Read at your own risk!]How surprised were you when you found out the truth about Operation Remington?
The truth behind Scandal's Operation Remington has been revealed — and boy was it a doozy!
Even though Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) was listed as the pilot on Remington, a covert mission in Iran that also involved Jake Ballard (Scott Foley), POTUS was actually part of a different mission near Iceland that saw the destruction of a civilian airliner carrying more than 300 passengers. Shocking as it may be that the future Commander in Chief killed civilians, the real blockbuster was who was on that flight: Olivia's mother!
What does this all mean?! Did Fitz really kill Olivia's mom? Could he really lose the White House to democratic opponents Josie Marcus (Lisa Kudrow) and Governor Reston (Tom Amandes)? TVGuide.com turned to Goldwyn to get the scoop:
Scandal scoop! Friends alum Lisa Kudrow teases her character's future
Totally shocked! I had made up an entire story for myself about a covert black ops mission in Iran, which turned out to be only half right. At the table read, I blurted out, "Iceland?!" Would the Fitz-Olivia relationship be irreparably damaged if she learned the truth of what Fitz did?
I would certainly think so. But then again, it is Fitz and Olivia. It's unclear whether Fitz knows that Rowan (Joe Morton) is related to Olivia. Will we get a definitive answer on that?
Unclear is right! What would happen if the public found out about Remington?
hat would be insane! I can't even imagine. Snowden times a thousand!
Report: Kerry Washington is pregnant!
Is there anything you can tease about the future of the Fitz-Jake-Olivia triangle?
Goldwyn: Just that it gets more complicated and interdependent.
How does Fitz feel about his chances in the election? And what does he think of his competition?
Goldwyn: Josie is a real threat. Reston not so much. Fitz may be overconfident, but he believes he could take down Reston without much effort. Josie is a wild card because she is authentic. She may lack the grit required, but Fitz will need to be careful with her. In general, I think he is confident despite his vulnerabilities. This comes from the innate self-delusion and arrogance of all politicians [that] they can prevail against impossible odds. But also from his conviction that his policy agenda is the right one for the country.
How does he feel about Olivia possibly being his campaign manager again? And will it be easy for them to work together again?
Goldwyn: Heaven. It doesn't matter if it's easy. Heaven.
Is there any scenario where it's actually possible that Fitz won't win the election? What would that mean for his future?
Goldwyn: I guess it's possible. And it probably means that Tony would be out of a job.
Lisa Kudrow reveals she had "life-altering" nose job in high school
Will the election bring back bad memories of Defiance, with Fitz struggling with whether he can win it on his own?
Goldwyn: Yes, absolutely. But he is more than up for the challenge. Fitz welcomes the opportunity [to] simply do it right this time -- win or lose.
