Lupone will play their mother, Rachel, who has been struggling to find her way since her husband passed. She's filled the void by focusing on her children and worrying about whether they'll ever settle down in a stable relationship.
People in New Jersey comes from Girls executive producer Bruce Eric Kaplan, who will write the pilot and executive-produce alongside Michaels and Andrew Singer. Paul Feig will direct the pilot and serve as an executive producer.
