Law & Order: SVU

Eliot Spitzer, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Anthony Weiner. Americans are all too familiar with the story of a politician's fall from grace. Law & Order: SVU guest star Kyle MacLachlan says that doesn't make watching the downfall any less fascinating.

"When we look at our politicians, they appear to us to be, and they present themselves as being, completely in control and on top of everything. I think that's what we like to think that they are," he says. In Wednesday's new episode, the actor plays a politician caught in a scandal. "So when it turns around that they have all these deep dark secrets that are exposed that we didn't know about, it always surprises us."

MacLachlan's Andrew Raines is an ambassador whose son is suspected of raping a 13-year-old just as Raines begins his campaign for the Senate. Things get even more complicated for Raines when his housekeeper's son is also suspected of the crime. (May we remind you of a certain TV politician hurt by a scandal involving the housekeeper's son earlier this year?).
