Rupert Murdoch Blasts Tom Cruise, "Creepy" and "Evil" Scientology

Rupert Murdoch, Tom Cruise

Two days after Katie Holmes filed for divorce from Tom Cruise, News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch attacked the actor and his religion on Twitter. "Scientology back in news. Very weird cult, but big, big money involved with Tom Cruise either number two or three in hierarchy," he wrote on early Sunday. "Watch Katie Holmes and Scientology story develop. Something creepy, maybe even evil, about these people."

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes: 5 warning signs of divorce

Murdoch's tweets came the day one of his company's newspapers, The New York Post, published a story from biographer Andrew Morton that describes the process by which Cruise and higher-level individuals at Scientology allegedly selected Holmes, 33, to become the next Mrs. Tom Cruise. The article also alleged that Holmes signed an extensive marriage contract for five-years when she and Cruise got engaged in June of 2005 and that the contract included bonuses for each year Holmes stayed with Cruise, and an extra incentive if she gave him children.

Holmes gave birth to Suri in 2006. In the divorce papers filed Friday in New York, she filed for sole custody of Suri. Cruise released a statement later that day saying Cruise was "deeply saddened" by Holmes' decision to divorce. Cruise was previously married to Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman, both of whom also split from Cruise when they were 33.

Despite saying he received "hundreds of attacks" after his Scientology tweets, Murdoch did not retract his earlier comments. "Expect they will increase and get worse and maybe threatening. Still stick to my story," he tweeted

Reps for Murdoch and News Corp. could not immediately be reached for comment.
