Redmond O'Neal Visits Farrah Fawcett During Temporary Jail Leave

Farrah Fawcett, Redmond O'Neal

Farrah Fawcett's son, Redmond O'Neal, was temporarily released from jail to visit his ailing mother.

At the request of his lawyer, O'Neal was granted a supervised three-hour leave Saturday to travel to Fawcett's home, according to People. He was driven by a Los Angeles County Sherriff's Department sergeant and a deputy and then returned to custody.

A sherriff's department spokesman told the magazine that temporary release from custody is common when family members are gravely ill or when inmates must attend funerals. Fawcett is battling cancer. A representative declined to comment to TVGuide.com about her health.

O'Neal is awaiting sentencing on April 29 after violating the terms of his probation from a previous arrest. The visit, which cost $1,285.39 for personnel and mileage, was paid for by the O'Neal family rather than taxpayers.
