American Idol was the top-rated show Wednesday, but it couldn't take down The Voice head-to-head.

A special episode of The Voice drew 8.7 million viewers and a 2.7 in the adults 18-to-49 demographic, edging out the first hour of Idol by two-tenths. Idol averaged 10.8 million viewers and a 2.8 for both hours, down a tenth from last week.
