Ratings: Nashville Sinks; American Horror Story Posts Crazy Numbers

Nashville

Nashville's ratings went, uh, south Wednesday, slumping 29 percent from last week.

The ABC drama earned 6.7 million viewers and a 2.0 in the adults 18-to-49 demographic, shedding almost three million viewers and eight-tenths from its already so-so premiere. Fellow new series Chicago Fire (5.9 million, 1.5) also took a big tumble, dropping more than 20 percent.

On the other hand, The CW's Arrow (3.5 million, 1.3) was steady and again beat NBC's 8 o'clock lineup — Animal Practice (3.8 million, 1.0) and Guys with Kids (4.3 million, 1.4) — in the demo.

CBS topped the night in the demo and viewership, thanks to Survivor (10.1 million, 2.7), Criminal Minds (11.7 million, 3.1) and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (10.5 million, 2.4).

ABC's Modern Family (12.1 million, 4.6) was the top show of the night, leading into the Season 2 premiere of Suburgatory (7.6 million, 2.8), which was down from its series premiere in the post-Middle slot last year. The Middle (8.3 million, 2.5) was up a tenth, while The Neighbors (6.5 million, 1.9) fell a tenth.

Elsewhere on NBC, Law & Order: SVU (6.3 million, 1.6) was down to tie a series low.

The CW's Supernatural (2.2 million, 1.0) was steady.

Preliminary numbers for Fox are unavailable due to the lengthy baseball delay and numerous pre-emptions.

On cable, FX's American Horror Story: Asylum opened to crazy numbers: 3.85 million viewers with 2.78 million in the demo, making it the No. 2 show of the hour, behind CSI. The numbers are a 21 percent and 37 percent improvement, respectively, from the series premiere a year ago.
