What death slot? Fringe's Friday debut proved to be a ratings success, helping Fox top the night in the coveted adults-18-to-49 demographic.

Fringe delivered 4.9 million viewers and a 1.9 in the demo, slightly above its fall average of 1.8 and up 12 percent from its final Thursday outing last month. Its lead-in, the season premiere of Kitchen Nightmares (4.2 million), also scored a 1.9 in the demo.

Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly previously said that if Fringe maintained its Thursday numbers on Fridays, it should be more than enough for a fourth-season renewal.

CBS won the night in viewers, aided by the series finale of Medium, which pulled in 7.8 million viewers — the night's biggest audience — and a 1.6 rating. Repeats of CSI: NY followed, garnering 7.2 million and 6.6 million viewers, respectively.

On NBC, a Minute to Win It rerun drew 4.7 million viewers and a two-hour Dateline averaged 6.3 million viewers.

ABC aired new episodes of Supernanny (4.3 million), Primetime: What Would You Do? (5.1 million) and 20/20 (5.4 million).

Reruns of Smallville and Supernatural averaged 1.4 million viewers on the CW.
