The Cast of Modern Family
The Emmys were held on a Monday night this year for the first time since 1976, but apparently that didn't deter people from tuning in.
Although the telecast was down about 10 percent from last year's show, this year's Seth Meyers-hosted outing was the second-highest rated Emmys of the past eight years. It drew 15.6 million viewers overall and earned a 4.2 rating in the 18-49 demo. The awards show was the most-watched night on any network since the Oscars aired on ABC back in March and drew 35.2 million viewers.
Backstage at the Emmys: What you didn't see on TV
The Emmys typically take place on a Sunday night in September, but were bumped this year due to NBC's preseason football coverage.
The show failed to draw a significant number of viewers from other networks, however. CBS' Under the Dome (6.6 million, 1.4) and ABC's Bachelor in Paradise (4.6 million, 1.3) and Mistresses (3.2 million, .9) were steady from last week. Under the Dome, however, dropped from last week's 1.5 rating in the demo to hit a new series low. MasterChef (5.3 million, 2.0) and Hotel Hell (3.9 million, 1.6) on Fox also matched their previous week's numbers.
