Just like the good ol' days, American Idol led Fox to a Tuesday night win — but not with its old audience.

With its first live show of the season, Idol pulled in 15.8 million viewers and a 5.0 in the adults 18-to-49 demo to help Fox notch the highest Tuesday demo rating of any network all season. The two-hour episode, however, lost in terms of viewership to CBS' NCIS-NCIS: Los Angeles combo, which averaged about a million more viewers.

Idol recap: Who got a second chance?

Against Idol, NCIS (18 million, 3.4) hit a season low in the demo, but NCIS: LA (15.7 million) rose a bit to a 3.1. ABC was far more affected by Idol: Last Man Standing (7.4 million, 2.1), Cougar Town (4.3 million, 1.5) and The River (4.1 million, 1.5) all slumped to all-time rating lows.

On NBC, Parenthood closed out its third season with 5.1 million and a 1.9 (up 4 and 12 percent) to tie Unforgettable in the demo.
