Rango Lassoes Top Spot at Box Office

Rango roped in the top spot at the weekend box office, according to Box Office Mojo.

The animated film, which reteamed Johnny Depp with Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski, grossed an estimated $38 million in its first weekend.

The adult thriller The Adjustment Bureau, starring Matt Damon, came in at No. 2 with an opening weekend tally of $20.9 million. Fellow new release, Beastly, earned $10.1 to rank third.

Last week's top movie, Hall Pass, fell to No. 4 with a little more than $9 million. Gnomeo and Juliet was next, drawing $6.9 million.

Unknown finished sixth, taking in $6.6 million. Coming in at No. 7 was last week's Best-Picture Oscar winner, The King's Speech, with $6.501 million — bringing its total to $123.8 million.

Rounding out the top 10: Just Go With It (No. 8, $6.500 million), I Am Number Four (No. 9, $5.7 million) and Justin Bieber: Never Say Never (No. 10, $4.3).

The weekend's fourth major new release, Take Me Home Tonight, failed to crack the top 10 and grossed $3.5 million. It came in at No. 11.
