Prince Philip Hospitalized for Bladder Infection, Will Miss Diamond Jubilee Concert

Prince Philip

Prince Philip was forced to miss Monday night's concert for Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee after he was rushed to the hospital for a bladder infection.

"The Duke of Edinburgh was taken to King Edward VII Hospital in London this afternoon, from Windsor Castle, as a precautionary measure after developing a bladder infection, which is being assessed and treated," the British Monarchy said in a statement Monday. "Prince Philip will remain in hospital under observation for a few days."

Prince Philip was by his wife's side, along with the rest of the royal family, during her Diamond Jubilee river pageant Sunday along the River Thames. Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Elton John and Stevie Wonder are among those set to perform at the concert, being held Monday evening at Buckingham Palace.

"He is, understandably, disappointed about missing this evening's Diamond Jubilee Concert and tomorrow's engagements," the Monarchy also said in the statement.

Prince Philip was hospitalized for four days in December when he underwent emergency surgery for a blocked coronary artery. He turns 91 this month.
