President Obama: Mythbuster in Chief
Myth: Barack Obama has better things to do than appear on a television series. Fact: Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman, better known as the MythBusters, have been recruited for the White House campaign to get kids excited about science. And so tonight the president shows up on Discovery's hit. "That the president is putting such a priority on education really says a lot about the man — you can't criticize that," says Hyneman. "It's wonderful."
Before coming on the show to issue his challenge, Obama clearly did his homework, choosing a myth the guys have tried but failed to successfully replicate three different times in the past. But now when they set out to prove if it was possible for Greek mathematician Archimedes to set fire to a charging Roman fleet using only mirrors and sunlight, they have 500 eager students helping out. Obama, however, isn't on hand for the actual experiment. "The idea that he'll ever see us blow up something in person," says Savage with a laugh, "yeah, it's a nonstarter."
Mythbusters airs Wednesday at 9/8c on Discovery
