Indian police said they found no evidence to suggest the father of a Slumdog Millionaire child actress tried to sell his daughter.
"So far there is no evidence of any offence, hence there is no registration of complaint and no arrest," Officer Nisar Tamboli told Reuters.
Police began an investigation at the request of 9-year-old Rubina Ali's mother after the British tabloid News of the World claimed Rubina's father, Rafiq Qureshi, offered to sell his daughter for roughly $300,000.
Qureshi and his neighboring slum dwellers were later questioned by police.
Qureshi has denied he tried to sell Rubina, saying he was duped by a "dirty" undercover operation by the tabloid.
Rubina, who lives with her father and stepmother, played the youngest incarnation of Latika in Slumdog. Last week, the film's producers started a trust for Rubina and costar Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail to ensure they receive education and housing.
