Pilot News: McCarthy Is Gossip Girl's Dad, Vampire Casts Lead

Not that Lipstick Jungle fans needed Sign No. 73 that the NBC sudser isn't returning, Andrew McCarthy has been cast in Lily, the CW's tentatively titled Gossip Girl prequel spinoff, says the Hollywood Reporter. McCarthy will play no less than teenage Lily Rhodes' father, Rick, who is a music biz exec.
Starring as Lily is American Dreams girl Brittany Snow.
Also on board for the spinoff is One Tree Hill alum Matt Barr, as Keith van der Woodsen, a love interest of Lily's. It is speculated that given the character's surname, he eventually could wind up marrying Lily and siring Serena.
Elsewhere on the CW's pilot front, Nina Dobrev (Degrassi: The Next Generation) has landed the lead role of Elena on the netlet's adaptation of The Vampire Diaries. Also, Tim Matheson — who made for an appropriately acquiescent vice president on The West Wing — will play a charming senator on the D.C.-based Body Politic.
