Phineas and Ferb, Star Wars
Phineas and Ferb creators Dan Povenmire and Jeff "Swampy" Marsh have been pitching a Star Wars crossover from the moment Disney acquired Lucasfilm and the Star Wars franchise last year. Now they're getting their chance.
Hot off the heels of next month's Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel crossover, Povenmire and Marsh announced Friday at Comic-Con that an ode to Star Wars is next -- and already in production.
The episode will follow Phineas and Ferb as they enjoy summer on Tatooine, next door to Luke Skywalker. When the plans for blowing up the Death Star accidentally fall into their hands, Phineas and Ferb are suddenly thrust into a global rebellion. The duo must find a pilot to take them to the rebels — but their sister, Candace, has a Stormtrooper-like desire to bust those rebels.
Meanwhile, evil but low-level "Darth Enshmirtz" has created a "Sith-inator" that he hopes to use against the Rebellion. Agent P (Perry the Platypus) winds up trapped in carbonite as he tries to stop him. And then things get worse when Ferb is hit by Darth Enshmirtz's creation, turning into an evil Sith.
"May The 'Ferb' Be With You and with all of us who for decades have dreamt of a chance to work with the great characters and stories of Star Wars," Povenmire says.
As TV Guide Magazine recently reported, Povenmire immediately emailed a drawing of his bumbling evil scientist character, Dr. Doofenshmirtz, in full Darth Vader regalia. "When I saw that news break, I drew a picture of Doofenshmirtz as Darth Vader and texted it to the head of Disney TV animation and wrote, 'I smell crossover!'"
Apparently the force was with him — and Phineas and Ferb. The special will premiere some time next year.
