Philip Seymour Hoffman Joins Showtime Pilot Trending Down
Philip Seymour Hoffman will star in and executive-produce the Showtime pilotTrending Down, The Hollywood Reporter reports. The network is expected to make the official announcement Tuesday at the network's Television Critics Association fall TV preview.
The dark comedy pilot will focus on what it means to matter is society's youth-obsessed comfort. Hoffman will star as Thom Payne, a man who struggles with his relevancy after his advertising agency is taken over. According to THR, Kathryn Hahn will play Hoffman's wife, Lee Payne, but her official casting announcement isn't expected until next week.

If picked up by Showtime, this would mark the Oscar winner's first TV series. His last small screen appearance was in the 2005 HBO miniseriesEmpire Falls.
Trending Down was created by This American Life contributor Shalom Auslander, who will write and executive-produce along with Hoffman, the actor's producing partner Emily Ziff, The Office's Ken Kwapis and Alexandra Beattie (Outsourced).
