TV Character Actress Peggy Rea Dies at 89

Peggy Rea

Peggy Rea, a famed TV character actress, died Feb. 5 of congestive heart failure at her Toluca Lake, Calif. home, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She was 89.

Rea was best known for playing Brett Butler's mother-in-law on Grace Under Fire and Olivia Walton's cousin, Rose on The Waltons. She also regularly appeared on The Dukes of Hazzard and Step by Step.

Rea began her acting career in the '60s as a member of Red Skelton's stock company. Over the years, she appeared in hit TV series including I Love Lucy, Gunsmoke and MacGyver and the films Made in America and Devil in a Blue Dress.
